Laboratory of Excellence for Dental Applications – LEAD

Submission summary

With a view to a long-term collaboration, the Anthogyr company and MATEIS laboratory of INSA Lyon are willing to create an Laboratory of Excellence for Dental Applications (LEAD). Anthogyr has been designing, manufacturing and distributing dental implants and tools for more than 67 years. The MATEIS laboratory affiliated with INSA Lyon is specialized in the development and characterization of multifunctional materials. By forming the LEAD, the two entities will be able to share complementary skills to foster innovation and create new processes and new materials meeting the criteria of improved mechanical properties, biocompatibility and aesthetics.
The LEAD will work on several themes:
- Titanium and its alloys: LEAD will develop a new kind of titanium both highly resistant and free of potentially troublesome alloy omponents.
- Zirconia-base ceramics: The aim here is to optimize the properties of these materials, making them tougher and more stable over the long term.
- New manufacturing processes: The purpose of LEAD is to develop porous structures or gradient-properties materials that will provide a reduction of Young's modulus and improved surface properties.
- Biocompatible materials: LEAD will lead cytotoxicity and biocompatibility assays on the newly developed materials. Specific procedures compatible with dental applications’ characteristic environments will be developed.
