Drug Identification by X-Tags – IDEMAX

Submission summary

The challenge of products authentication is very important, on economic plan but also for the citizen's safety. In particular, falsification of a pharmaceutical product, even a malevolence act, can have huge and dramatic consequence in term of public health. The means implemented by counterfeiters also depend on the challenges at stack, and a large number of systems declared “impossible to counterfeit” have fairly rapidly witnessed the emergence of excellent counterfeits.
For these reasons, innovation is extremely active in the traceability tools field. Without any claim as to absolute inviolability of a system, the technical problems encountered by counterfeiters in understanding the identification system used, the encoding employed, and the detection means implemented all undoubtedly help protect against counterfeiting of the system.

The project submitted proposes an original solution for marking medication to guarantee its authenticity. This marking carried out “in the material” calls for a new emerging X-ray spectrometric detector technology to be identified, and is totally invisible both to the naked eye and by traditional X-ray means.
The project consists in finding technological solutions for integration of the marker in medication packaging, and in defining conditions for operation and acquisition of the detection system.
