Summary

In terms of research activity, 2018 maintained the high level established in previous years, with 11 conferences organized, 47 seminars and workshops held, 108 visitors hosted from 18 countries (of whom 21 for stays between a week and six months), 9 new Research Fellows recruited and 31 publications in journals including Nature, Science, American Political Science Review, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Journal of Economic History, American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Psychology, Animal Behavior, Journal of Theoretical Biology, Journal of Politics, Carlton Law Review, Current Biology, Nature Human Behavior and many more.

2018 marked the end of the independent funding of IAST from the "Laboratoires d'Excellence" initiative of the French government and the launch of the new "Ecole Universitaire de Recherche" of TSE and IAST. This new research school aims to increase the quality and interdisciplinary focus of the research training of economists at TSE, as well as to bring doctoral students in other social sciences for periods of research training in Toulouse. Within this school IAST will maintain its own autonomous budget and continue to recruit researchers at the postdoctoral, assistant professor and senior researcher level. Our core funding is assured until 2028, so although we shall need to continue our search for longer term funding we shall be able to focus on long-run research questions without needing to assure our security in the immediate future.

2018 also saw the move towards a more effective governance structure, with a new Management Committee and Recruitment Committee replacing the former committee of Program Directors. The disciplinary programs have been abolished, reflecting a new emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations. Our Multidisciplinary Prize continues to attract high-quality entrants.
