Summary

The LabEx INRT explores mechanisms controlling gene expression in development, physiology and disease in an integrative manner. In 2018, we kept building a strong scientific environment to support LabEx teams. Since 2012, we issued over 10 calls and recruited 12 LabEx Chairs who are offered attractive LabEx packages often supplemented by additional funding (Idex, ATIP-Avenir, ANR, national bodies, EU, charities…). They benefit from our LabEx funded International PhD Program and technology support.

55 LabEx-funded PhD students were hired since 2012. We also launched our 4th Summer Internship Program in 2018 to identify talented pre-Master students that could join the IGBMC for PhD or postdoctoral training. Partnership with the SATT Conectus for technology transfer involved the joint hiring of an IP Scout in 2012 and the creation of a novel funding scheme for early innovative projects in 2013. This lead to the filing of several patents and the creation of 7 start-ups of which 5 are still active (ANAGENESIS, ADVERUM THERAPEUTICS, CASC4DE, RIBOSTRUCT, DYNACURE). Since 2012, we increased the visibility of the LabEx INRT including through advertisement for international Calls, visits of high-level delegations, and actions towards PhD training. LabEx INRT received very good comments after the 2015 national evaluation.

In 2018, achievements of the INRT LabEx were presented to the Strategic Management Committee offering the opportunity to discuss future directions and possibilities for new projects beyond LabEx INRT end (December 31, 2010 including a 1 year extension awarded by Strasbourg University). 2018 saw also the launch of the IMCBIO graduate school (EUR), a joint initiative of 3 LabEx (INRT, NetRNA and MitoCross) with a first cohort of 16 Master students.

The quality and visibility of the work supported by LabEx INRT is demonstrated by the ranking of IGBMC in the Top 20 of institutions advancing research in Biomedical Sciences by Nature Index.
