Résumé du projet

The goal of DIGISCOPE is to create a high-end network of interactive visualization platforms interconnected by a telepresence network enabling remote collaboration across these platforms. The ten DIGISCOPE platforms have different capabilities in terms of display technology (immersive room, back-projected stereoscopic display, tiled wall display), physical size (from 3.3 to 60 square meters), display resolution (from 4.6 to 130 million pixels), and interaction devices (haptic arm, multitouch display, motion tracking system, mobile devices). These platforms provide the partners with state-of-the-art facilities for visualizing and manipulating complex data. When the telepresence system is operational, it will provide remote collaboration and shared interaction capabilities across platforms, taking into account their different display and interaction capabilities. The project specifically targets four application areas: scientific discovery, product lifetime management, decision support, and education and training. Phase 1 (investment): At the end of 2016, the ten platforms are installed and operational, as well as the FabLab (digital fabrication laboratory). The telepresence system is being deployed: the equipment has been delivered and the engineers hired by the project have developed the software. Several collaborative applications have been tested and are being deployed. Phase 2 (exploitation): The DIGISCOPE platforms are used primarily by the members of the project for research and teaching, with an average usage rate of 65%, which is remarkable for this type of equipment. The FabLab, originally designed for use by project members only, is used for teaching Master-level classes in digital fabrication and for training future FabLab managers. It is also open to outside users, which represent over one-third of the reservations of the FabLab.
