The French National Research Agency (ANR), in partnership with the CNSA (the National Fund for Solidarity and Independence), is launching the 2013 edition of the “Mental Health - Addictions” call for proposals.

The aims of this call are:

  • To stimulate innovative/« risky projects » in the fields of psychiatry and addictions aimed at exploring new ways to understand or treat these pathologies.
  • To stimulate translational research coupling a clinical approach with an experimental approach based on models (animal, cellular, pharmacological or computational models).
  • To stimulate integrative, multidisciplinary research bringing together clinical teams with teams developing biological, pharmacological, epidemiological, sociological, cognitive or imaging approaches, as well as teams using bio-engineering, bioinformatics and computational sciences.

The four main themes of the call are:

  1. Environment, mental health and addictions
  2. New biomarkers for disease detection and progression
  3. Pathophysiology and developmental psychopathology: analysis of cognitive and behavioral maturation
  4. Innovative therapies

Dementia and mental retardation are not covered by this call.

Transnational call: SAMENTA 2013 will include a transnational call within the NEURON II ERA-NET opening in January 2013 (http://www.neuron-eranet.eu).

This call aims at enabling multi-national collaborative projects that will address important questions related to mental disorders. Projects must be based on complementarity and sharing of expertise. The added value of working transnational collaborations should be clearly stated. There will be an asset for multi-disciplinary or translational approaches.

The areas covered by the call will span from basic research on disease mechanisms to clinical research i.e. “proof-of-concept” in humans. Projects may include research on affective disorders, stress-related and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and delusional disorders, substance use disorders, and other mental disorders. Research on dementia will not be considered in this call.

The list of national agencies participating in this call will be published in January 2013. For more information on this call: http://www.neuron-eranet.eu
