Hardware and software infrastructures for the digital society (INFRA)

This call for proposals is now closed. You can view all open calls for proposals by clicking here.

The aim of the INFRA programme is to promote and support research in the strategic domains of hardware and software infrastructures for the Internet of the future, ambient intelligence, new services and associated modes of utilization, high-performance computing and storage, and ubiquitous availability of data, information and multimedia content.

These infrastructures are very widely distributed on highly diverse scales (multi-scale), involving equipment items of very different and heterogeneous natures, ranging from networks of objects (sensors, micro and nano-controllers, etc.) to massively parallel architectures (including multi-core parallelism) and machine grids on the scale of the Internet.

This programme is designed specifically to accompany the rise of the digital society, on the following topics:

  • The consideration of widespread mobility;
  • Ubiquitous communications;
  • Very high bandwidth technologies;
  • The Internet of objects, the control of the physical world and Human–computer interactions;
  • Omnipresent, convergent and interoperable services;
  • Infrastructures for high-performance computing, mass storage and Big Data;
  • Effective utilization of new hardware components;
  • Management and optimization of resources, including energy;
  • The problems of security, reliability, resilience, performance and quality of service associated with these infrastructures; the control and guarantee of services;
  • The applications and uses of the digital services associated with these infrastructures;
  • The confidentiality of the users, the data and the services;
  • The management of an extremely heterogeneous environment;
  • The new communication architectures (opportunistic networks, content-oriented networks, vitalisation of infrastructures and services, etc.).

The thematic lines for this programme are:

  1. Technologies for infrastructure
  2. Infrastructures for networks of the future
  3. Infrastructures for services of the future
  4. Infrastructure for inter-sector services: specific services extensions to scope

The ANR and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) have agreed to promote collaborations between French and Chinese research teams.

The ANR and its Canadian counterpart NSERC have agreed to promote collaborations between French and Canadian research teams.

The specific conditions of the above-mentioned international collaborations are described in the "Conditions of submission, evaluation and selection of transnational projects", available below.

General information

Attention: the contact details mentioned below may not be valid as of today. In order to find the adequate contact details, please consult the "departments" section.

The links to the submission web sites will be available no later than 01/12/2012.

The complete submission file comprises two documents that must be filled out:

  • The "scientific document" is the scientific and technical description of the proposed project. The guidelines are available in the templates above..
  • The "administrative and financial document" of the proposal is generated from the submission web site after filling out the requested information online.

Contact information and more details on the programme can be found on the webpage dedicated to the INFRA programme.

Erratum 30/11/2012 : inside the section "3.5 Recommandations importantes" of the call text, would you be kind enough to replace the following sentences into the paragraph "Recommandations concernant la composition du consortium" :

•    Dans les projets partenariaux organismes de recherche/entreprises, le personnel affectĂ© au projet (personnels permanents et non permanents ; en personnes.mois) par l’ensemble des partenaires entreprises du projet devrait reprĂ©senter un pourcentage du personnel total affectĂ© au projet par l’ensemble des partenaires de l’ordre de :
o 20 Ă  30% pour des projets de recherche fondamentale,
o 30 Ă  60% pour des projets de recherche industrielle,
