The ANR joins six partner European countries to launch a joint call for transnational proposals in the Atlantic sea and Mediterranean regions in the three following topics: Ecosystem approach and ecosystem models for the North Atlantic Ocean; Risk assessment of invasive alien species - changes in marine biodiversity; Development of indicators and science support and management tools for the determination of Good Environmental Status in the Mediterranean Sea.

During the international conference “Planet under Pressure”, the ANR signed on March 28th, 2012, in London, an agreement with 12 of the major research funding bodies in the framework of the Belmont Forum.
The agreement aims at funding international projects between the world’s major and emerging research funders, on the main scientific issues raised by large-scale environmental changes.

The ANR signed on March 7th in Dehli, India, a cooperation agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) aiming to finance French-Indian research projects. The agreement consists in the identification of research areas to be jointly finance on a yearly basis. The ANR and the DST commit to co-fund projects selected on the basis of a peer review process.
The submission and selection of projects will follow ANR's regular process in the framework of the Blanc International programme. In India, the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA) will be in charge of the implementation of the calls for proposals and the funding of the Indian teams.

European-wide research strategy to tackle Neurodegenerative Diseases
On the 7th February 2012, the EU Joint Programme in Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) launched a European-wide strategy to coordinate and prioritize research aimed at tackling the enormous challenge of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

The ERA-Net BiodivERsA 2012 call for proposals is now launched
The BiodivERsA “Pan-European call for international research proposals on biodiversity dynamics: developing scenarios, identifying tipping points and improving resilience” was launched on November 1st, 2011. 10 countries have confirmed their participation in this transnational programme: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey. The total provisional amount of the call is over 6 M€. Scientific teams from these countries will be invited to form transnational research consortia with a total of at least 3 different countries participating in the call, and to submit proposals before the 16th of February 2012. Nevertheless, a mandatory pre-registration of the projects (title, summary, consortium and preliminary budget figures) will have to be done before the 15th of December 2011.

Transnational call for proposals in the framework of the ERA-Net CHIST-ERA
The Consortium of CHIST-ERA (European Coordinated Research on Long-term Challenges in Information and Communication Sciences & Technologies ERA-Net) brings together into partnership national research funding organisations in Europe: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Switzerland. The ANR and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (http://www.cirm.ca.gov/) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming at strengthening cooperation between France and California in the field of stem cell research. This agreement has already led to the organisation of a French-California workshop held at the ANR in July 2011 with about ten researchers from each country.

ANR-NSF French-American calls for proposals in the fields of chemistry and materials
In the framework of the ANR-NSF collaboration in the fields of chemistry and materials, two French-American calls for proposals will be launched in the Blanc International I programme which will open at the beginning of October and close at the end of January. ANR's and NSF's programme schedules are different. The MWN and ICC calls for proposals of the NSF are already open.

FLASH Call for proposals: JAPAN – Great Tohoku Earthquake
Following the major earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11th, 2011, the French and Japanese research agencies (Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR, and Japan Science and Technology agency, JST, respectively) agreed to open a common call to promote urgent research activity related to this major disaster.
