Visit of a Taiwanese delegation from the National Science Council (NSC) to ANR

On Friday 20th April, 2012, a delegation from the National Science Council of Taiwan led by Deputy Minister Dr. Cheng-Hong Chen visited the French National Research Agency (ANR). The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. Pascal Briand, Director General of ANR. The excellent relationship between ANR and NSC was highlighted; they have co-funded 33 French-Taiwanese collaborative projects since the beginning of the collaboration in 2007.

The ANR joins the world’s major research funding bodies to support transnational projects on global change

During the international conference “Planet under Pressure”, the ANR signed on March 28th, 2012, in London, an agreement with 12 of the major research funding bodies in the framework of the Belmont Forum.
The agreement aims at funding international projects between the world’s major and emerging research funders, on the main scientific issues raised by large-scale environmental changes.

Pacale Briand is ANR’s new Director General

Pascale Briand, currently Director General for Food at the French Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, previously Director General of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES), research director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), delegate to the Interministerial Cancer Prevention Mission and deputy director of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) at rue d’Ulm, is appointed Director General of the French National Research Agency (ANR). She succeeds Jacqueline Lecourtier, whose term of office will run out on 1 February 2012.

Results of the second ANR FLASH call "Great Tohoku Earthquake"

Nine French-Japanese proposals have been selected within the framework of the ANR Flash (*) call "Great Tohoku Earthquake". This call had been open from June 17th to July 18th, 2011, following the major earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on 11th March 2011; it was coordinated with the JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) in order to strengthen the French-Japanese cooperation on those fields. The French scientific community did react very positively, with 33 proposals submitted.

FLASH Call for proposals: JAPAN – Great Tohoku Earthquake

Following the major earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11th, 2011, the French and Japanese research agencies (Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR, and Japan Science and Technology agency, JST, respectively) agreed to open a common call to promote urgent research activity related to this major disaster.

Indian-European Research Networking Programme in the Social Sciences

The ANR, in association with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, Germany), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC, UK), the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO, The Netherlands) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR, India), invite applications for joint social science networking proposals between research centres in the participating European countries and India.

Partnership between ANR and the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT)

Jacqueline Lecourtier, Director General of the French National Research Agency and João Sentieiro, President of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, signed on Monday, 23rd May 2011 in Paris a Memorandum of Understanding aiming at strengthening the French-Portuguese cooperation in the field of scientific research, as well as the launch of joint projects led by researchers from both countries. Priority research areas for 2011-2012 are: Biology, Health, Ecosystems and Environment.

Visit to the ANR of NSF Director

Jacqueline Lecourtier, Director General of the French National Research Agency welcomed the new director of the National Science Foundation, Prof. Subra Suresh, on May 16th, 2011.
The meeting was the opportunity to review the cooperation between the ANR and the NSF.

Signature of a Cooperation Agreement between the ANR and the CNPq in Brazil

The French National Research Agency (ANR) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in Brazil are pleased to inform the scientific community of the signature of a cooperation agreement aiming to fund collaborative research projects between French and Brazilian teams. In 2011, the agreement is implemented in the framework of the Blanc International II programme which is currently open. The call is open to projects of quality in the following fields: Mathematics, Physics, and Biodiversity.
