Global Security Research: See you at the 12th WISG Symposium!

The French National Research Agency (ANR) will be hosting the 12th edition of the Interdisciplinary Workshop on Global Security (WISG) from 16 to 17 October 2018 in Lyon. The event is organised in partnership with the French Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DGRI), the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) and the French General Secretariat for Defence and National Security (SGDSN). It will offer researchers, businesses and institutional stakeholders a platform to discover the outstanding results of ANR projects and specific activities undertaken by the Agency and its partners, while allowing them to engage with potential partners. Free entry with registration

The WISG symposium is an annual event that gathers around 200 national and international research actors to take stock of the scientific and social challenges in global security, provide an overview of breakthroughs achieved from ANR projects, and foster engagement and communication among the various stakeholders who work to address these challenges.

This year's edition is built around three thematic sessions involving oral presentations on the aims and outcomes of ANR-sponsored projects and/or experience-sharing by institutional stakeholders (Ministry in charge of Research, competitiveness hub, etc.), namely:

  • From fundamental research to targeted research for security forces;
  • An international approach to critical infrastructure resilience (e.g. water, power, communication or transport supply systems);
  • The "Young Researchers" (JCJC) funding instrument, as well as specific programmes and activities in security research

A round-table will also be held on the topic "Envisioning tomorrow's operational needs for security forces: From dream to reality?" This will allow civil society experts (fire-fighters, police, gendarmerie, etc.) to compare notes on the use of new tools developed from innovation and convergence technologies in the fields of safety and security.

To encourage exchange of views among the participants, scientific posters will also be presented during each specific session. What's new in 2018? A contest codenamed "Speed-posters: Present your poster in 2 minutes flat!" will be one of the highlights as showcasing over a dozen research works during the poster session. A prize will be awarded for the best presentation.
