Formation of European and International Scientific Networks: New Call for Proposals Launched

The French National Research Agency (ANR) has announced a new call for proposals entitled "Setting up European or International Scientific Networks" (MRSEI). The aim of this new instrument is to encourage the formation of transnational networks coordinated by French researchers. Funding will only be provided for research networks that have specifically been set up to submit a collaborative project in response to a large-scale European or international call for proposals. The deadline for the submission of proposals for this first edition is January 12 / 2015.

Antibiotic Resistance: Coordinating Research at the Supra-national Level

The first ever World Antibiotic Awareness Week is currently underway. Today also happens to be European Antibiotic Awareness Day. These campaigns, initiated respectively by the World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Control, are an opportunity for ANR to highlight its involvement in the Joint Programming Initiative “Antimicrobial Resistance” (JPI AMR).

Preannouncement: A European call for proposals on clinical research for repurposing in rare diseases

The French National Research Agency will launch, in partnership with 14 European countries, the eighth E-Rare joint call for funding multilateral research projects on rare diseases on “Clinical research for new therapeutic uses of already existing molecules (repurposing) in rare diseases”. The call is scheduled to be open on the 7th of December, 2015.

Three projects fight elderly malnutrition, launch website

Why does food have taste? Should the elderly eat the same portions as young people? What is malnutrition and what causes it in seniors? Partners from the projects Aupalesens, Renessens and Alimassens have launched a website to spread awareness about malnutrition in older adults and disseminate recent research breakthroughs.

JPI Climate: transforming Europe’s future through climate issues

For several months now, ANR has chaired this inter-governmental initiative which works to secure a better future for Europe, protecting its citizens and natural wealth through informed and inclusive action in the shift toward more sustainable development trajectories.

Flagships: 19 transnational projects selected for first FLAG-ERA call

Garnering participation from nearly every country in Europe, the ERA-NET “FLAG-ERA” was conceived to support the European Commission Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme’s two “Flagship” initiatives: the Graphene project and the Human Brain Project (HBP). Nineteen transnational projects have been selected and shall be allocated €13.5 M through the ERA-NET’s first call for proposals.

The FRIPON project, using cameras to track down meteorites

Meteorites are rocks that fall down to Earth from the solar system. Studying them allows us to learn more about the solar system’s origins and evolution. With changes in lifestyle having caused meteorite sightings to become increasingly rare and scattered, the FRIPON project created the world’s densest camera network to track the origin of meteorites and facilitate their collection.

Musimorphoses project gives ear to music listening in the digital age

The project, which benefits from a 36-month ANR grant worth €296 K, is peering into how music is shared, sold, recorded, broadcast, played, promoted and pirated in the Western world and other regions throughout the planet. The hardware and software that underpin them, often overlooked by sociological research, are given a prominent role in the study.

POLYPERL: scientists pry into the world of pearl oysters

In 30 years’ time, pearl culture has become a critical economic activity in French Polynesia. To counter the crisis affecting the sector, the POLYPERL project, launched in February 2012 and funded by ANR over a period of four years in the amount of €707 k, seeks to both further fundamental knowledge on oyster pearls and their culture, as well as produce operational tools for industry professionals with a view to sustainable and integrated management of pearl culture in French Polynesia.

Generic Call 2016: an accelerated evaluation system implemented for projects relating to migration, asylum, and refugee policy

ANR announced at the pre-proposal submission site’s opening that an accelerated selection system for projects relating to migration, asylum, and refugee policies in all of their facets will be implemented under the generic call.
