Call for application: Recruiting scientific department heads

Following the instituting of new governance at the Agency provided for by Decree No 2014-365 of 24 March 2014, ANR’s scientific teams have been grouped into five statutory departments. The Agency launched a public call for applications today (open until 14 May 2016) for the purpose of recruiting department heads.

Michael Matlosz appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of ANR

Professor Michael Matlosz has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of the French National Research Agency (ANR). A member of the National Academy of Technologies of France and a PhD holder from the department of chemical engineering of the University of California, Berkeley, Prof. Matlosz was previously the Deputy Scientific Director General at the French agency. He succeeds Pascale Briand who has held the position of Director General since January 2012.

Organic products: what are the impacts on health and the environment? BioNutrinet is counting on Internet users to cast some light on the subject

Who consumes organic products? For what reasons? What are the impacts of these consumption habits on health and the environment? The BioNutrinet study, a specific part of the NutriNet-Santé study has just been launched to answer these questions. Of a scale unparalleled to date, BioNutrinet is funded through grants allocated by ANR within the framework of the Sustainable Food Systems programme (ALID 2011-2013).

Horizon 2020 European programming and ANR actions – how do they interconnect?

"Horizon 2020", the European Union's framework programme for research and innovation for the 2014-2020 period was launched in France on 16th December by Geneviève Fioraso, Minister for Higher Education and Research. Europe is a priority for ANR, whose remit includes increasing the visibility and influence of French research on the international stage. ANR has rendered a large part of its Work Programme 2014 consistent with the European Commission's funding programme, and more broadly with the European strategic agenda, while ensuring that its funding does not overlap or duplicate European funding.

ANR to coordinate a new ERA-NET

The kick-off meeting of the ERA-NET FLAG-ERA took place on November 12-14 in Amsterdam. This European initiative, coordinated by ANR, gathers 22 research funding agencies, research performing organisations and ministries in Europe around a common goal: supporting the "FET Flagship" projects of the European Commission, in particular the two large-scale projects on graphene and on the human brain. With FLAG-ERA, ANR is now coordinator of four ERA-NET projects.

ANR Annual Report 2012 is now online

2012 is the final year in a programme cycle in which the ANR endeavoured to develop research programmes based on the fruit of the reflections by academic and industrial communities, taking into account the national strategic priorities and the international context.
2012 was also the year in which we reached the treshold of 10,000 research projects funded since the Agency was created.

World’s research funders address the issues of open access and research integrity

The French National Research Agency participated in the second summit of the Global Research Council in Berlin on May 27-29, 2013. Heads of 70 research funding organisations from around the world endorsed statements concerning two major issues in scientific research: Open Access and Research Integrity.

The G8 Research Councils Initiative

The Heads of the Research Councils of the G8 states (G8-HORCs) met in Berlin on May 30, 2013. Each institution represented, including the French National Research Agency (ANR), put forward the latest developments in the national research landscape of its own country. The group also mentioned the future of the G8 pilot initiative that launched 3 successful calls for transnational proposals to tackle global challenges.

Cooperation Agreement between the National Research Fund (FNR) of Luxemburg and the French National Research Agency

A bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the National Research Fund (FNR) and the French National Research Agency (ANR) in order to promote the implementation of joint transnational research projects. Aware of the prominent role played by the national research funding agencies in the construction of the European research area, ANR and FNR decided to lift the barriers that impede the planning and implementation of transnational projects through the signature of a bilateral agreement on the "Lead Agency" model.

Final workshop of the 2011 Flash Japan programme

An assessment workshop of the 2011 programme "Flash Japan – Great Tohoku Earthquake" will be held on March 6-7, 2013 in Sendai, Japan. The French National Research Agency (ANR) and the Japan Science and Technology agency (JST) had launched a joint call for collaborative proposals following the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami, in order to foster urgent research related to the catastrophe and to reinforce Franco-Japanese cooperation on those themes.
