Résumé du projet

The aim of the Labex DEEP is to understand the fundamental mechanisms involved in developmental processes as well as epigenetics and stem cell potential. Coordinated by Pr E. Heard and Dr G. Almouzni, the Labex DEEP comprises 16 research teams and 3 technical platforms affiliated to 2 research units as part of the Curie Coretech within  the research centre of the Institut Curie : The Genetics and Develpmental Biology unit (UMR3215) and the Nuclear Dynamics Unit (UMR3664). Since its launch in 2012, DEEP has strengthened scientific bounds between the 2 partner units, acquired several state-of-the-art technologies along with support to hire highly qualified engineers for the shared technologies . Recruitment of new talents with he postdoctoral program and with the technical support program for Junior groups has been a major success. Together all these efforts leveraged the collaborative power and the capacity to break new frontiers within DEEP program.   In 2016, we also achieved key training actions, most notably by contributing to our unique international courses, including the Epigenetics course and the Developmental biology course. The organization of career development brunch linked to courses or as workshops for students and postdocs in the Labex proved very useful. Promoting science to the general public included a motion-design movie centered on DEEP’s research themes, participation in la fête de la science, la nuit des Sciences et des Lettres, as well as interviews and movies. At the international level, the Labex is also very active, with the final meeting of the network of Excellence EpiGeneSys in 2016 in Paris and a joint retreat with the Hubrecht Institut (Utrecht, NL) to foster collaborations between the Labex and the Hubrecht Institute. Finally, to build on previous EU Network such as EpiGeneSys, Labex members are actively engaged in promoting the new European FET Flagship proposal “4DNucleome” to explore spatio-temporal changes in chromosome organisation.
