Résumé du projet

The Institute of Computational Biology (IBC) is an inter-disciplinary institute involved in research, development, and education in the field of computational biology. IBC develops innovative methods and software to analyze, integrate and contextualize large scale biological data in the fields of biology, health, agronomy and environment. IBC is a multidisciplinary research center that brings together the forces of Montpellier area in computational biology. It involves over 120 members, including PhDs, postdocs and engineers, belonging to 16 laboratories and two companies. IBC has become the privileged place for computational biology in the region, a fact that is strongly supported by the attendance and frequency of our seminars, the number of foreign visitors, the quality of applications received for PhD and postdoc grants, the quality of invitations received by members, and the number of contracts (ANR, FRM, Europe H2020, etc) carried by members of IBC. Above 57 articles have been published in 2016 in top journals and conferences (Nature, PNAS, Brief. in Bioinformatics, J. Computer and System Sciences, GigaScience, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Bioinformatics, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Discrete Applied Math, etc.). These publications are available on our web site. Worth to notice are the Nature paper investigating the out of Africa hypothesis in Human evolution, and the discovery of a tenth gene in HIV genome published in PNAS. Also, the CORTECT spin-up company will turn into a start-up in Jan. 2017. Many applications and collaborative projects take advantage of our deliverables, especially of our circa 30 software programs and databases that are available to a wide community. With the support of our trustees, we have setup a plan to establish IBC as a federative structure: the basis for a long term existence of IBC. To this aim, IBC has taken part to the discussions of the ISite MUSE project from Montpellier University that has now been approved.
