Earth - Planets - Universe: observation, modeling, transfer

The “Laboratoire d’Excellence UnivEarthS” is a unique partnership developing innovative interdisciplinary projects in the fields of Earth Sciences and Physics of the Universe. By bringing together the research groups of its three founding members (laboratories IPGP, APC and AIM) and the French aerospace center ONERA, it aims to study the origin and evolution of the processes that have shaped and governed the history and dynamics of the Earth and the Universe.

In 2022, the Labex UnivEarthS funded 20 projects, ongoing since the last calls for project in 2019 and 2021. These funds were used in part to hire 17 of non-permanent scientific staff (PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, engineers).

UnivEarthS is also heavily involved in educational initiatives within the scope of its research themes. The Labex is also partner of the doctoral school STEP’UP, whose goal is the training of Earth and space scientists next generation, and directly financed three PhD students involved in Labex-funded projects.

Furthermore, a new call for projects was launched 2023 and 2024, in order to support proofs of concepts or feasibility studies for new and innovative projects at the intersection between geosciences and astrophysics. 6 new projects have then started at the beginning of 2023.
