UV light emission with nanowires – EMOUVAN

Submission summary

Based on the unique complementarity of the consortium partners, the aim of the EMOUVAN project is to gather the basic knowledge necessary to control the growth, electrical doping and physical properties of AlGaN nanowires (NWs) and of AlGaN-based NW heterostructures, with the ultimate goal of realizing an electrically-pumped demonstrator emitting in the 260-280 nm range. Growth will be performed by MBE. Characterization of NWs ensembles will be performed by Xrays diffraction and optical spectroscopy. Single NWs will be studied by a combination of high resolution electron microscopy, photoluminescence, nano-cathodoluminescence, electrical transport measurements supported by theoretical calculation on AlGaN alloy chemical stability. The processing of both single NW-based UV- light emitting diodes and full wafers will provide the proof of concept for the future realization of a new generation of NW-based UV LEDs.
