Résumé du projet

The Labex ACTION is developing smart systems embedded in objects, able to analyze a situation, process information, and make decisions in an adaptive or predictive manner (e.g. by actively removing ambient acoustic noise, solving complex problems, or smartly monitoring structures or environments). The novel organization in 4 core scientific & technology axes fosters collaborative projects in research, valorization, training, dissemination, and for foreign researchers invitation through a yearly selective CFP. Emphasis has been put on international outreach, and on structuring ACTION’s activities internally and with other PIAs, especially the I-SITE BFC. From 2012, ACTION has recruited 5 excellence chairs, 23 PhDs and 48 Postdocs (>60% foreigners). The key figures include the production of 390 peer-review papers (of which 135 in 2016, +16% vs 2015, 18% having an Impact Factor >5 - e.g. 1 Nat. Phot. with a Nobel prize laureate), 6 of them highly cited in WoS, 45 patents, and a strong leverage effect at the EU level, with 8 novel research & training H2020 projects in 2016. 2016 witnessed a breakthrough in dual-frequency-comb spectroscopy; a spatial neuromorphic photonic computer with record dimensionality (1600 neural nodes) is being implemented, a powerful SHM strategy has been demonstrated (collab. NASA), a highly sensitive biosensor driven by a smartphone has been developed with NTU Taiwan. 10 novel patents were filed recently with 5 valorization projects rolled out with SATT Grand Est (electrooptic nanosensor, ultrathin noise insulation panels…). On the dissemination and training side, ACTION has led or sponsored many actions for scientists (incl. 5 summer schools), industry (2 technical days/yr), students (34 merit scholarships, 4 Cursus Master of Engineering with IDEFI Figure) and general public. A key event in 2016 was the organization of a symposium gathering 8 Labex, plus industrials and authorities, to promote excellence in smart systems on the national level
