Résumé du projet

The PLANAQUA project aims at establishing, within the CEREEP-Ecotron IleDeFrance (Joined Services Unit ENS-CNRS 3194), a cutting-edge experimental infrastructure on aquatic ecosystems. This research infrastructure provides the public and private scientific community with access to a set of experimental equipment with a high level of instrumentation. Microcosms with a volume of a few litres to several hundred of litres, can be used in highly controlled conditions. Some of them have been designed for a possible use in the Ecolabs (highly sophisticated climatic chambers) elaborated by the UMS 3194. Various mesocosms, with a volume of less than a cubic metre to several tens of cubic metres, are proposed to researchers. Some tanks, equipped with wave beaters, offer a high degree of control over thermal gradients and water mixing. Sixteen artificial lakes (750 m3), integrating littoral, benthic and pelagic zones, are proposed to researchers for long-tem experiments. These unique systems, equipped with automated sensors, will facilitate studies on the functioning of complex aquatic communities with heterogeneous spatial distributions. The elaboration and installation of these facilities, which constituted the first stage of the Equipex (investment phase), has been completed in February 2015. Globally, the platform has been designed to respond to specific deficiencies in terms of experimental infrastructures, to have a strong federating influence on research into stagnant aquatic ecosystems at the regional, national and international scales, to encourage the development of close relations between public sector and private-sector research, the services responsible for managing aquatic environments, local government and the economic and social environments, and to be competitive with cutting-edge infrastructures already existing or being developed internationally. The realisation of these objectives constitutes the main aim of the second phase of the Equipex project.
